How to Upgrade your TracerPlus Software

First, we need to explain the structure of our software version numbering scheme.

Example software version: 9.5.0.1461

In the example above, 9 = the major version, 5 = the minor version, 0 = the patch version and 1461 = the build number.

When upgrading your TracerPlus software, there will be 4 options available to you:

  • Build Upgrade – When changing the 4th digit (build number) only while the first 3 digits remain the same (IE: 9.5.0.1461 to 9.5.0.1468). Build upgrades will primarily include bug fixes only.
  • Patch Upgrade – When changing the 3rd (patch version) and 4th digit (build number) while the first 2 digits remain the same (IE: 9.5.0.1468 to 9.5.1.1469). Patch upgrades include low level new features and bug fixes.
  • Minor Upgrade – When changing the 2nd (minor version), 3rd (patch version) and/or 4th (build number) digit while the first digit remains the same (IE: 9.2.0.1378 to 9.5.0.1461). Minor upgrades include mid-level new features such as NFC support.
  • Major Upgrade – When changing the 1st digit of the version (IE: 9.5.0.1454 to 10.0.0.1621). Major upgrades include high-level new features such as support for a new OS or a large feature such as conditional form logic.

When upgrading to a new version of TracerPlus software, it is recommended to upgrade all components to this new version including TracerPlus Desktop, TracerPlus Connect and the TracerPlus Mobile Client.

How to Upgrade TracerPlus Desktop and TracerPlus Connect:

Follow the steps below for a Build, Patch or Minor upgrade:

  • On your computer go to the TracerPlus Download page.
  • Click on the Software/version needed.
  • Click on Download.
  • When download is done, Install the software to your computer.
  • The new versions installed should overwrite the previous versions without losing any settings or data. You won’t need to uninstall anything.

Follow the steps below for a Major upgrade:

  • On your computer go to the TracerPlus Download page.
  • Click on the Software/version needed.
  • Click on Download.
  • When download is done, Install the software to your computer.
  • The new version will install separately from your current versions allowing you use both versions side by side to test the newer version before completely removing the older one.

How to Upgrade the Mobile Client:

Android users with google play on their device will receive automatic updates to the software for minor, patch and build upgrades if originally installed from Google Play. If you are upgrading to a Major version using Google Play, simply search for the latest version and install it. If you do not have access to Google Play, follow the steps below to upgrade the TracerPlus Mobile Client on your Android device:

  • Go to the TracerPlus Download page.
  • Click on the TracerPlus.apk file needed.
  • Click on Download.
  • When the download is complete, connect your android device to your computer via USB cable.
  • Copy the .apk file previously downloaded to your device.
  • On the device, go into your file browser and tap on the newly downloaded .apk file to install it.
  • If this is a minor, patch or build upgrade it will simply replace your existing version and update it to the latest version.
  • If this is a major version upgrade it will install as a separate application allowing you to test the new features while using your current version in production.

For Windows Mobile/CE device users, follow the steps below to upgrade the TracerPlus Mobile Client:

  • Cradle your device so that is appears on your computer.
  • Open up the newly installed version of TracerPlus Desktop.
  • In TracerPlus Desktop, navigate to Tools-->Install TracerPlus to Device and Select Windows Mobile.
  • Follow the prompts to install and then complete the install on your mobile device’s screen.
  • If this is a minor, patch or build upgrade it will simply replace your existing version and update it to the latest version.
  • If this is a major version upgrade it will install as a separate application allowing you to test the new features while using your current version in production.

Note: In some instances, you may not be able to install the new version of TracerPlus due to an error. If this happens, try an uninstall of TracerPlus from your device/computer and then install the new version of TracerPlus that you want.
