The Input Type field property is a setting that can be found in the TracerPlus Desktop Form designer. Pictured below is the location of the Input Type drop-down menu in the form designer, accessed by selecting any field control.
The purpose of the Input Type setting is that it allows you to change the type of input that the field in question receives. Currently, there are 4 different options that can be selected for Input Type, and they are listed and described below:
- Any – Allows all forms of data input.
- Keyboard – Limits data to keyboard entry only. Both Barcode and RFID radios will be turned off when focused on this field.
- Barcode – Enables the barcode scanner for this field (supported hardware only). The RFID Radio and keyboard entry are disabled when focused on this field.
- RFID – Enables the RFID scanner for this field (supported hardware only). The Barcode Radio and keyboard entry are disabled when focused on this field.
The ability to change the type of input received by a field serves a dual purpose. Primarily it allows you to seamlessly switch between various types of input, such as going from scanning barcodes to RFID tags automatically between fields. It also reduces user errors that could stem from inputting the wrong type of data into a field.
Note: The input type for a field can also be controlled by a button action of ToggleInput. This enables you to associate a Button to a given field and change the input type for the field while out in the field. More information on this can be found at https://support.tracerplus.com/article/308-toggle-input-button-action.
